So yesterday, I read that Sara Gilbert and Linda Perry announced their engagement. That is so cool! Personally, I have long been a fan of both. I have enjoyed watching Sara Gilbert on Roseanne and Big Bang Theory, and I have loved the many incarnations of Linda Perry’s music.

Why do I think it is cool?

Maybe because it is celebrity gossip? Um… no. Frankly, I couldn’t care less. Celebs put their pants on one leg at a time just like the rest of us. No biggy to me.

Maybe because they are both very “out” lesbians? Um… no. I’m an out gay man. So what?

Maybe because they are making a statement about gay rights and same-gender marriage? Um… no. I don’t know anybody who has married the same person as many times as I have as a result of the ever-changing rules regarding marriage. I don’t think anybody is going to trump what my hubby and I have already been through in terms of same-gender marriage.

Maybe because it is furthering the rights of the LGBTQ community? GAG! Heck no! I have already stated many, many times before that I cannot stand the idea of all those letters being fused together as if we are all the same people with the same issues. To me, that makes every bit as much sense as lumping all Europeans/Asians/Africans/Islanders/etc. together as being non-American.

So why do I think it is cool? Simple – because it is two people in love who have decided to enter into a relationship together - no more, no less. And that is something that I think we should all – ALL - be able to celebrate. Right?

RIGHT?!

Oh, but no. Then I made the foolish mistake of reading on in the article to the online comments posted by various fuktards, which included truly horrifically ugly things like this:

“is anyone else tired of the gay scene in your face?”
“Can we STOP GLORIFYING this gay way of life?”
“Two extremely homely women, match made in heaven”
“Why do lesbians make themselves so ugly?”
“SOOOOO tired of all you gays shouting to the world about your sexual thing.”

SHAME ON YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cowardly/passive-aggressive commentary like that makes me simply furious! And I’m not going to be quiet about it. For cryin’ out loud, if any other celebrity is spotted in a plain T-shirt in Starbucks, it makes the front-page – much LESS if a straight celeb begins dating somebody. But gods forbid somebody of a same-gender inclination make the news for anything (such as announcing an engagement which IS a pretty big deal!), and idiots like this consider it part of the gay-agenda getting in your face.

If you don’t see that as a double-standard, you can KISS MY GAY ASS!

I find the trash-talk about these two as nothing less than appalling. Yet, in its own funny way, I think it is particularly ironic. Why? Because Linda Perry has had quite an impact on the music scene, not that many would know. Besides being the lead singer for “4 non blondes” (a very melodic and soulfully provocative band), Perry is an extremely talented songwriter who has written songs for and also mentored many very well-known pop singers. And I wouldn’t be one bit surprised if the moronic h8ers who posted such nasty comments about Mz. Perry have ignorantly skipped down the sidewalk humming to one of her songs.

So in tribute to the engagement of Mz. Gilbert and Mz. Perry, I will post some of Mz. Perry’s lyrics to her song, Beautiful

“Every day is so wonderful
Then suddenly
It’s hard to breathe
Now and then I get insecure
From all the pain
I’m so ashamed

I am beautiful
No matter what they say
Words can’t bring me down
I am beautiful
In every single way
Yes words can’t bring me down
So don’t you bring me down today.”

Yes you are, Mz. Perry. Let the h8er’s hate while they buy your music and you live well off the profits.

Stupid asshats!
