HIV - the horrid current reality check
Apr. 28th, 2004 09:07 amI think, yes I think, I might just survive this week.
Monday and Tuesday were just HORRID days in terms of work. Lots of stress. Little logic. And a lot of jumping through hoops to keep bureacracy happy. I'm so disgusted right now by backward thinking, I could just scream. I sat in a meeting last night where we were discussing HIV planning and prevention. Currently, the U.S. Government is spending billions on the war in Iraq, and all other things are being squeezed. Yet, somehow, someway, G.W.'s administration is managing to set aside large portions of HIV funds for "abstinance only" programs. Oh yah... THAT'S gonna work - NOT! IDIOTS!
Further, not long ago, our Prevention team met with the CDC to discuss campaigns for Prevention. The CDC was offended by the idea of launching any in-your-face ad campaigns, and preferred a much more conservative approach. 'scuse me? How can one use a conservative approach when trying to reach people who are engaging in radical or risky behavior? Are we even talking the same language?
ARGH!
In the meantime, here is my LJ plea to the masses... please help in the fight against the spread of HIV by supporting AIDS Walk. Check out the site, and pledge your support...
