Despite the frantic artiste-freakouts that I had earlier in the week, Saturday really went very easily. I was not worried about the cooking. I was more concerned about the vision. I had planned on the formality and fineness of a Victorian sit down dinner. Unfortunately, this particular mob wanted none of that. They wanted a catered party.
Le Sigh.
Oh well. I remind myself – they paid over $3 grand for this. They don’t HAVE to share my artsy vision. Heck, I’ll serve ‘em boil in bag lean cuisine if that’s what they want! (Le Gasp! Le Shudder!)
As always, the brilliant “Widow Harper” played beautifully, lending a wonderful ambience to the entire evening. I’m thinking that by next year, perhaps “poor Widow Harper” should remarry and become Mrs. McPlucket. Hmmmm…
After our last French maid, Babette, ran off with one of the footmen, we had to find a new maid. “Claudette” seems well-suited to the job. But I believe she has been sampling some of the bottles here and there. I will have to start marking them just to be sure…
“Jeeves” stood upright as the utmost of professional (if not a bit stoic) butlers. Excellent job, Jeeves… wot-wot…
