Sunday Morning serenity
Nov. 12th, 2006 10:23 amAfter my honeybear woke me this morning, I quickly jumped in the shower, got dressed, and then decided to walk with my him to our respective churches. He goes to an Episcapalean church a few blocks down. Me... I go to Starbucks. :-)
This morning seems unusually calm and serene. The coolness of fall... the crunching of the leaves under my feet as I walk, and the pleasant quiet all combine into a pleasant melody of peacefulness. During my walk, I stopped occassionally to smell the roses, and enjoy the sites. I walked by the Howe-Waffle house, which is a visual delight no matter how many times I have seen it. Nearing my destination, I passed by Macres florist - our favorite. Macres knows us by name, and knows our tastes. We have spent a fortune there over the years, and I am proud to say that they did the flowers for our wedding. Macres is a third (I believe) generational florist here in Santa Ana. As I understand it, grandfather Macre was involved in putting together some of the floats for the Rose Parade many years ago. He found himself frustrated by the fact that the flower blooms began to wither so quickly, and put his mind to figuring out something to help delay the fade. The result of his thinking was the flower-reservoir that we now see in many forms whenever we purchase single cut flowers. A brilliant invention for the day that has kept the family in the business for generations.
