The light casting through the bedroom window this morning carried a sublime clarity, illuminating the brilliant blue of a spring Santa Ana morning.  After a couple of days of on-again/off-again rain, the local area has retuned to the brilliant hues of nature’s pallet.  So bright and vivid are the colors as to appear almost artificial.  The intense yellow of the daffodils blooming in the front garden proudly compete against the intense shade of the sky.

Walking through the soggy garden this morning, I looked about at the plants.  Thought weighed down to the ground, waterlogged after the recent weather, I know that by this evening, they will regain their upright place, and begin to spring forward in their annual ritual of rejuvination.  I look forward to the bounty of spring.  The roses, having all been pruned down for the season, carry no blooms as of yet.  Yet, the new glossy and waxy growth of perfect green and reddish leaves bring promise of healthy and fragrant blooms.  The Alstramarian greens spill over onto the driveway.  Clustered heavily as they are, I look forward to bouquet upon bouquet of delicate orchid-like flowers.  I look forward to garden-fresh cherry tomatoes, peaches, and berries.

Spring – the eternal promise of wonderful, wonderful things to come.
