Subject:  Santa Ana Local Weather

To:  The Santa Ana Weather Force

It has recently come to our attention that Santa Ana has still been in Winter mode.  We would like to call to your attention the fact that it is now March.  As such, you are hereby ordered to cease and desist Winter immediately.  Failure to do so will result in disciplinary actions such as Santa Ana Winds, El Nino’s, etc., etc.  If you have any questions, please contact us.

                        Sincerely, the Management

Thank you for calling this matter to our attention.  The problems with our machinery have since been fixed.  Having flipped on all of the windmills in Palm Springs, we have now shifted forward of schedule by bringing in Summer.  Feel free to contact us if you have any other concerns.

                        Sincerely, Santa Ana Weather

Yes indeedy folks, we had a quick Spring.  A really quick Spring.  One might even say, “UBER quick”.  Not just roadrunner quick.  We’re talkin’ more like, “OK kids, get ready… here it comes…. WHOOOSH… and there it goes!” kinda quick.

Before the temperature changed, the internal clocks of the bulb plants gave hope for an approaching Spring.  The daffodils and crotins sprung up, despite frigid morning temperatures.  Sadly, that was about it for Spring.  Just a few days ago, I was still seeing my breathe in the morning, and contemplating wearing a second coat for my morning strolls to work.  BRRRRRR!  Would Spring ever arrive?  This weekend, Spring arrived.  YEAH!  And then, it promptly left as Summer hit.  Booo!  It really wasn’t an arrival.  Not even a visit.  It was more like a drive-by.  Spring barely slowed down to wave.  It simply honked its horn and moved on.

This morning, the daffodils are wilting, the big fountain was almost dry, and the rest of the garden has shifted into “Let’s getting to rumblllllllllllllle” mode.  The roses are budding, as are the alstramarians.  The clymantis is sending out tendrils.  And the tomatoes (which didn’t die off since last year) are full of yellow flowers.  The morning sun is bright, warm and intense.  Oy!

Oh well, at least the garden likes this.  I guess I’ll get used to it.  Time to shift my mentality – nice summer salads, cold soups, and tropical drinks.  Mojito season is almost upon us.  Now there’s a bright side!
