Anybody else notice anything funky about the weather? Anybody? Anybody?
Waking up this morning, all snuggy-warm under a comforter and a quilt, I climbed out of bed to a chilly morning. With all of the reports about global warming, you’d think news would have reached downtown
Strolling in to work this morning, the cool air felt wonderful. For that brief moment of calm, all felt right with the world. Of course, the world is far from ok. We have mourners in Virginia, fighters in the middle-east, a supreme court taking a huge step backwards, and utter incompetence at the helm. Sometimes, the state of our world can be just too much to bear. And the question is… why? Why is there so much anger? Why do random acts of senseless violence happen? What is there so much road-rage? Why do some people lash out at others that they do not even know? What is the poison that courses through our bodies to cause such a thing? Is it caused by the air that we breathe – full of pollutants that we cause through our own neglect of environmental impact? Is it caused by the water that we drink – full of chemicals carelessly spilled into runoffs and raingutters? Do the vaccinations that we receive as children create negative side-effects not yet understood?
I just don’t understand.
Almost all religions teach love. Yet, look at how many acts of evil and hatred are carried out in the name of religion.
Science works towards making things better. Yet, look at how many “oopses” have resulted in the name of progress.
Doctors study the body to make more progress in eliminating disease. Yet, we have new, more powerful diseases than history has ever seen previously.
I just don’t understand.
In the microcosm known as the Claycomb backyard, all is well. The flowers bloom. The world is calm. If only the rest of the world would just stop for a second and take joy as a new flowerbud opens to the light of day.
