Over the past few months, I have really tried my best to be easier on people.  It took a while, but I have learned that my anti-social behavior sometimes manifests itself in criticality.  I am very self-critical, and tend to be critical of others – especially when they fall down on the job.  Between the meds and a concerted effort, I have learned to “chill out” as they would say.  All in all, I feel like I’ve been a happier person and more friendly – at home, relaxing, and at work.  At least until…

… I have this one particular cow-orker.  She came into our division from another division having the experience of working here years ago.  In theory, she knew her stuff.  From the moment she came to our division – problems, problems, problems.  Left and right, things fell through the cracks, were not documented, were incorrect, etc., etc.  Add on the complication of her frequently being out.  Vacation day one day, medical issue the next.  It gets old.  Finally, she decided to take a week and a half vacation, leaving next to no updates on her responsibilities.  While she was out, my boss received her resignation.  She would return for 3 days after her vacation and then be done.  GAK!

Yesterday, some of my co-workers were chatting with her about having a get-together luncheon for her going away.  They asked her to think about where to go and who to invite.  She actually had the audacity to complain that she felt like she was having to plan her own going away party.  GAK! GAK! GAK!

It is bad enough that she makes extra work for other people to clean up when we are already short-staffed.

It is bad enough that she is falling down on the job with social programs designed to help people.

But now she has the gall to complain because her grand send-off isn’t going as she had dreamed?  Who the F$*%* does she think she is?!!!!

I smiled.

I went to the luncheon.

I told her it was a memorable experience working with her, and I learned a lot.

GAK!
