Typically, the view is unobstructed, except for the occassional bit of haze.  Right now, the mountains in the background are pretty obscured by all of the fires.

That being said, not bad for a view from my office window, eh?  Pictured in the center is the Old County Courthouse.

After a very productive workday yesterday, I hit the gym for 45 minutes of cardio followed by yoga.  As I stewed away in the hot tub following my hour of owie, my brain kicked into high creative gear thinking about lots of artsy projects to be worked on.

Dance projects!

Domestics projects!

Cooking projects!

Sewing projects!

As I drove home, my head kept racing, drunk on creative juices.  I wanna do this!  I wanna do that!  I wanna do everything that is pretty!

Arriving home, my bouncy-energy was countered by a very sad looking Giley laid out on the couch.  The smoke has not unexpectedly reeked havoc on his sinuses.  I feel horrible for my hubby.  Big man that he is, his asthma and sinuses always manage to put him down.  I knew it would not be a restful night.

By around 11:00, we were nestled in bed.  Sadly, “comfortable” is hardly the word I would use.  Because of the fires, the smell of stale smoke is overwhelming everywhere.  Also, because we didn’t get home on time on Monday to close the windows, EVERYTHING on the second floor is covered with a layer (or more) of dust and soot.  DISGUSTING!  Ya know how a cat feels about getting wet?  That is how I am about dust and dirt.  I really HATE being dirty.

At 1:30, Paul’s phone went off like a fire alarm.  Both of us sprung out of bed as if electrified.  “This had better damned well be an emergency!” went through my head.  Turns out, it was.  My sister-in-law was calling to let us know that she and her family had been told to evacuate.  They were quickly packing up and getting away from their San Diego home.  The phone rang again at 5:30 as Paul’s sister informed us that they had gotten the kids to safety, and were returning to the house to hose it down as a precaution.

I feel just terrible for them and for all of the people down in San Diego and elsewhere in our beloved SoCal who face the fear of losing everything to nature’s fury.  Right now, we have no rain in sight, and the furious winds with gusts up to 100mph will continue through tomorrow.

Whatever form of divinity you call yours, please call upon that great source of strength and compassion to deliver these people from harms way.  The worst is yet to come.
