The simple pleasures
Feb. 24th, 2009 12:49 pmThere is a 15th century French dance known as “Joyaissance Vous Donnerai”, meaning literally, “You bring me joy”. And it is this simple idea that brings to mind the subject of this post.
What brings you joy?
There is no universal answer to this question since they vary as much as people. Take something as simple as gardening. Me – I enjoy gardening. I’m not the best gardener, but I enjoy it. And for me, that is the joy – watching the fruition of my work. My hubby, however, cannot stand the idea. It represents work and pain. I can’t say that I don’t see the point of his argument. After all, back pain doth suck.
For my hubby, joy involves sitting in a comfy chair reading a good book. Yet for me, that is hellish. I’ll start reading a page or two, become distracted, think about something else, forget where I left off, reread pages, skip lines, see something sparkly in the distance, become more distracted, and will feel the pressure of the deafening silence of the environment. UGH!
What are the simple pleasures that bring you joy?
