… I would not be bored. Even if I didn’t have to work, I think I would fill in the spare hours of the day with projects, projects, projects – particularly, art. Seriously folks, with so many incredibly cool and interesting things out there, and not enough time in the world over the course of several lifetimes to experience them all, how is it even possible… even conceivable… to ever, ever, ever become bored?

With no set plan in mind, yesterday afternoon turned into “museum day”. With out of town guests (who also happen to be SCA history geeks) in for the weekend, we found ourselves at the Getty Villa for a gorgeous afternoon of art-overload. Ye Gods, I simply cannot gush enough about that place. It covers all the bases. Into gardens? They got it. Into architecture? They got it. Into tranquility? They got it. Into art? They SERIOUSLY got it!

One thing about they Getty, they really have the ability to bombard… or not. And frequently, they switch around the way they do particular exhibits so that they can micro-focus on a particular process, or examination or study. And this time around, the fates just so happen to have worked to our advantage. Our friend Matthew had revealed earlier in the day that, back in the day, he used to be into making glass. No, not blowing glass, or doing lampwork – the actual MAKING of the glass – combining the silicates with other chemicals to create colors that can be used and manipulated into various forms of glasswork. And as luck would have it, one room of the Villa was all about glass. With several examples of ancient Roman glasswork in every direction, the room also boasted several TV screens showing videos from the Corning workshops where particular forms and techniques were recreated. Le Drool! Le GASP! Les Coooooool!

Does the guppyman really NEED another hobby? Hayyyell to the no. But still, it is so cool. Note to self – I really, REALLY do need to pick up the equipment again to start doing enamelwork. Of course, I also want a pottery wheel so I can pick up pottery again. And then there is the metalwork. And the….

… sigh.

Not enough hours in the day. Not enough days to the week. Not enough weeks to the year.

If only I were a rich man. I may not ever be able to do all of the things that I want to do. But by the gods above… I will never be bored.
