Prop 8 closings today

 

A question asked by Judge Walker to the attorney for the plaintiff’s in this morning’s Prop 8 closing arguments:

 

“Wouldn’t it have been more rational for the CA Supremes to invalidate those 18,000 marriages?”

 

Yes, this question is a hypothetical question, exploring all angles and legal ramifications. But it is impossible for me not to take this personally.

 

One of “those 18,000 marriages” is mine. And the question of my marriage… MY MARRIAGE… is being discussed by people that don’t know me, have never met me, and know nothing about me.

 

It is pretty safe to say that if you are reading my LJ, you are most likely in support of equal rights. But for just a moment, I want you to put yourself in my shoes and think about how it feels to have complete strangers deciding your fate from a distance.

 

I cannot put into words how much my stomach just tied itself into knots.
