As the creamy and rich flavor of coffee conjured me back from the surreal world of dreamland, I took my first steps of the work-week, wincing in pain not only from the harshness of daylight, but from the throbbing of my left-knee. Unfortunately, decades of SCA dance have resulted in bad knees. And unlike other parts of the body that were designed to, oh gee I dunno, HEAL, knees don’t actually heal. At least, that is what the doctors told me years ago after both of my surgeries. So for the rest of my life, from time to time, one or the other or both knees will randomly decide to flair up and speak to me in terms that anybody suffering from turrets syndrome will understand. Yet, as the ouchie-owchie of making my way down the stairs struck me physically and mentally, I still felt it was worth it. Why? Because it was a fun weekend!

Friday night involved doing one of my absolute favorite things – going out after dark and hitting the dance floor. Drinks, men, flashing lights, and a new release from GaGa, I was in gay-heaven. And yes, I unquestionably overdid it thrashing around on the floor until o-dark-thirty. But… that’s just part of who I am, and what gives me joy. Ultimately it comes down to a key point – balance!

Saturday crept up early (as always), with the jarring wake-up of having a leaf-blower whirring outside the bedroom window much earlier than I would like. But hey… no rest for the wicked. It was just as well. I had errands to run, things to accomplish, and a fun (and restful) night out doing dinner with friends. So with a sewing project complete, some gardening done, and a few other errands, before I knew it, we were out the door to dinner. Dinner was gourmet-crack, and I couldn’t get enough of everything – including the things that I really shouldn’t eat because it was all just SO FREAKING GOOD! The company was fantabulous, and the wine was bliss. Needless to say, I slept gooooood on Saturday.

Sunday, was an early morning of project work, as a friend of mine came over for an all-day sewathon. By the end of the day, we were both brain-dead, but got to enjoy that moment when all was said and done of seeing our accomplishment and saying, “ooooh, pretty!” Yet, by Sunday evening, my knees were killing me, my eyes were bleary, and my back was screaming things that would make the devil blush. So when the couch called my name, I wasn’t about to argue.

So now, here we are at Monday. I feel physically and mentally exhausted – yet accomplished. I guess it really all comes down to balance. Yet, despite the aches and ouches, I cannot help but smile. I brought them on myself. But I got to do the things I enjoy doing and live my life to the fullest. Helz ya!
