… always get me down. At least that is what the late great Karen Carpenter used to lament in that classic song of the 70’s. Looking out my office window this morning, the very uncharacteristic site of a completely gray sky, and sheets of wind-swept rain really should cast a setting of depression as thick as the cloud-cover. Yet, despite the torrents rushing along in the gutters, and the arctic blasts of wintery drenching, I’m feeling pretty good this morning. After all, not only do we need the rain, but what better type of day to be stuck in the office than one that looks all gray and gloomy, right? Besides, Mother Nature was at least kind enough to get us through the weekend prior to this unusual visit, eh? And speaking of the weekend, what a great weekend it was – action-packed, but full of accomplishment.

Friday night, after a quick-but-virtuous workout, we headed off to Laverne (oh, what an unfortunate name for a town!) for a little holiday get-together with some friends. We had a wonderful night, some warm bonding time, and a California King bed waiting for us to crash in our wintery slumber.

Since “sleeping late” was never part of the plan for this weekend, we were up and out of there early on Saturday morning to get Paul back home for a meeting, and me to prep things for Gyldenholt Yule before heading over to work with the autocrat and the head cook. As always, the afternoon saw us through mulled wine, cooking preps, event preps and more mulled wine. I enjoyed the event, as always, and gorged myself on wonderful food and good company. Add on a post-event bit of barhopping, and it was a great day.

Sunday saw another scene of productivity with four foody-geeks downing several pints in an English pub while discussing menu plans for another holiday event in a few weeks. Oy! The fun never stops! J

Do I typically have time to breathe? No.

Is the phrase, “Gee… I’m bored and have nothing to do” ever spoken in my home? No.

But truth be told, I’d really never want to have it any other way. For all my bitching, whining and protesting when I find myself overtaxed and stressed out, I love being busy, love feeling needed, and feel really good knowing that a complicated plan worked out.

Let the rains fall. Let the winds blow. And let the arctic chill blow. I don’t care. It ain’t gonna put a damper on my good mood.
