Holly-days and reflections

Hi gang,
OK, I know I have been a bit of a humbug this week on the whole holiday thing. It isn't that I don't like the holidays. I just do not appreciate having them thrust upon me. I believe in getting into the spirit when the spirit moves me - not when commercial advertising tries to guilt me into increasing their coffers.
Truth be told, now that things are calming down a bit, I think I am beginning to look forward to some of the festivity. My hubby and I will go tree shopping today. I know he suggested that we limit ourselves to a single tree this year. But, but, but... I LIKE having two trees. Since we celebrate differently and have different decorating tastes, we have traditionally had two trees - a Victorian Christmas tree in bright glass blue and white baubbles, and a more nature-reflective Yule tree in the back parlor. Both serve a purpose. Both grace their respective rooms. Both make us happy.
In typical sensory mode, I look forward to the tastes and smells of the holidays. I look forward to smelling hot apple cider, and baking spiced cakes and cookies. I enjoy the simple things such as eggnog chai latte's at Starbears (non-fat, of course. But very good!) I look forward to sharing time with people whom I love. I look forward to wearing a tux and raising my glass on new years with my honey. I look forward to his being the first kiss of the new year.
I guess the holidays aren't so bad after all. :-)
