Looking out the window at the hazy blue of a beautiful sky, I think it is gonna be a great day.  I can’t explain it, but I’m in a really, really good mood this morning.  There’s something to be said about getting a good night’s sleep.  Maybe it is the mattress (temperpedics ROCK!!!!)… or maybe it was the contentment of having a productive day with enough challenge to tell my brain to chill-the-f$*%-out for a moment (Oh look… a chicken and something shiny!)… or perhaps it was the workout.  Hmmm… there is truly something to be said about yoga.  My Wednesday night sessions are, in all honesty, usually much less challenge than my other workouts.  Led by my 20-something year old, zen-happy, and exceptionally flexible redheaded roommate, the Wednesday night sessions do tend to bring about a sense of calm and satisfaction.

Would it be wrong of me to confess that part of my scheudenfraude sense of joy comes from the fact that other participants in the class (all in their early 20’s) whimper and whine as we go through our workouts.  “oh PALEASE!” my inner-voice says.  “if you think this is intense, try a true hatha yoga workout.”  Honestly… these whimpy little 20 year old girls have NO earthly idea what they are in for.  If they think exercise is a pain in the rump now, what’s it gonna be like in 10 years and beyond?

“But its haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaard!” one of them whines.  The instructor gives a slight smile, and a stern smirk to the complaining student.  As for me, I just think about a tranquil meadow, a grassy field, and ample space in which I can get in a quick run right before I issue my class-mate a good, education Boot-to-the-Head.

I can honestly say that I’m in better shape now than I was when I was half of my current age.  Centerfold material?  I don’t THINK so.  But I feel great.  I have energy.  I enjoy life.  And I can do thinks in my yoga classes that make my several other classmates cringe.

It isn’t about the destination.  It is about the journey.  This journey is a fun one!
