Migraines

I’d like to think that I have a pretty high tolerance for pain. Gods only know I have burned myself in the kitchen enough times to have Teflon hands by this point. But when it comes to migraines, let’s just say that if I had any military secrets, I’d talk. And this morning, one hit with full force right around 6:00am, waking me up in blinding pain.

How do I describe a migraine? Imagine that someone came along, plucked out one of your eyes, shoved a golfball into the cavity, and then smacked your eye back into place. While I cannot guarantee with any scientific accuracy that this is truly a correct analogy, it sure feels like it! Even after a migraine has settled, the pain is still present. Picture, if you will, blowing up a tire. The tire reaches maximum recommended pressure, but you keep on inflating. Even after deflating the tire, it still bears traces of being stretched out and put under pressure. That is how my head felt for the first half of the morning.

Migraines can be just debilitating. My vision becomes distorted, and my balance is thrown. Coddling and soothing doesn’t do anything. Fortunately, I am one of the lucky ones – Excedrin Migraine actually works for me. I sing the song of better living through chemical enhancement!

Now… how to keep these suckers from happening in the first place?

Have you had your Blood Pressure checked lately? I started having middle of the night migraines and turns out my BP was spiking in my sleep.

I have them too... My doctor told me to take B-2, 200 mg; CoQ 10, 100 mg and Magnesium, 200mg. I was supposed to take it twice daily, but I have been doing it once a day.

This seems to be doing the trick. I haven't had one in quite some time.

I feel your pain

I think you're the only person I know that gets results with Excedrin. YOu're so lucky! I've been getting migraines for almost 10 years now (until a year ago I foolishly thought they were sinus headaches and couldn't understand why none of my sinus meds were helping). I'm lucky that I don't get light sensitivity and rarely get nauseous, but my headaches do last 3-5 days regardless of what I take. I take prescription cocktail of 800 mg ibuprofin, 500 mg Vicodin, and 500 mg Reglan. It doesn't cure the headache but definitely takes the edge off enough that I can function most of the time.

Have you tried tracking what was going on before the headache came on? I started doing at the beginning of the year and have figured out 4 of my triggers so far. (hormones, too much sugar, nutrisweet, impending rain). If you can identify triggers and medicate before-hand it may help you to avoid some of your headaches.

Omigod! That is just AWFUL!

No clue what happens to cause mine. They don't SEEM to have any pattern, other than occassionally when the weather changes - can't do much there.
