The Taste of Done

I am so close, I can almost taste it!!!!! I am currently right around the corner from being finished with a particularly challenging (for me, at least) illumination project. A friend of mine described my project-commitment as “Writing Bad Checks”. Feeling almost a little insulted, I asked her to describe. “Well,” she said. “You get inspired to do something, even though it is beyond what your particular skill and knowledge level are on the day that you commit. So then, as you begin to work on it, you realize that you are in over your head, and you have to quickly learn more skill sets and more aspects of the art form to pull off what you already committed to do. That is sorta like writing bad checks. You write a check, realize that you don’t have enough in your account, and you have to quickly scrape together funds to make it good.”
Gulp. I hate to admit it, but I think she’s right. When it comes to things for myself, I often take shortcuts. “I don’t really NEED to have that done in such detail”, I think to myself. But when it comes to projects for other people, I gotta do it bigger, better, brighter, blingier.
I am really, really close to being done with several projects all at the same time. I just can’t wait!!!!!!
